What happens during the Day Camp Assessment? Here is what an assessment entails: The half-day assessment is a requirement to join our daycare program (including sleepovers). During the assessment we will slowly acclimate your pup to our environment, staff, and a few friendly dogs. We are looking at their separation anxiety, listening skills and socialization skills. This will allow us to see if they're a good fit for our program. Assessments are done on weekdays only. Check out our video for the full experience!

What do I bring to the Day Camp Assessment? Please bring your pup in on a properly fitted flat collar and a leash. We want to set our campers up for success and offer the most positive experience possible for them, so the assessment day should not be the first time your pup is wearing a flat collar. This can cause overstimulation if it is something new to them and this could affect the outcome of their assessment. If you have any questions about the process please reach out to us at info@campshakeapaw.com

What is a properly fitted flat collar? What is a properly fitted flat collar? A properly fitted flat collar is a secure yet comfortable collar designed to sit snugly around your dog’s neck without causing discomfort. It should meet the following criteria: Snug but not tight: You should be able to fit two fingers between the collar and your dog’s neck. This ensures it’s secure enough to stay in place without being restrictive. Flat and durable: The collar lies flat against the dog’s neck and is typically made of materials like nylon, leather, or other durable fabrics. Appropriate sizing: The collar should be the correct size for your dog, sitting high on their neck (not loose or drooping). Adjustable collars are great for achieving the perfect fit. Functional hardware: The collar should include a sturdy buckle or clasp and a ring for attaching a leash or ID tags. What a flat collar isn’t: Not a slip, prong, or choke collar: Flat collars do not tighten or constrict when pulled. Not a harness: A flat collar goes around the neck only, unlike harnesses, which wrap around the chest and shoulders. Not decorative-only: Flat collars should be functional and safe for everyday wear, not loose, purely decorative, or flimsy. A properly fitted flat collar ensures your dog’s safety and comfort while preventing it from slipping off or causing irritation.
-
Do I stay with my dog during the assessment? No, pet parents do not stay during the assessment. Dropping off your dog allows us to provide a calm, slow introduction to the daycare process and gives us the opportunity to observe how they behave and interact in a new environment without their owner present.
-
Why is a flat collar necessary?A flat, fitted collar is an important safety tool at camp. It ensures that our team can safely and securely guide dogs when needed, whether during play, transitions, or emergencies. Loose or improperly fitted collars can pose a risk of slipping off, while harnesses and other gear do not provide the same level of quick, safe handling in a group play environment. For the safety of all our Campers, we require dogs to wear a properly fitted flat collar while at Camp.

What is the process for Day Camp admission? Before attending daycare, your pup needs to pass a Half-day Assessment. During the assessment we will slowly acclimate your pup to our environment, staff, and a few friendly dogs. We are looking at their separation anxiety, listening skills and socialization skills. This will allow us to see if they're a good fit for our program and what group they would do best in. Providing your pup passes their assessment, you will be given access through Gingr (our booking platform) to book full days, sleepovers and grooming.
-
What vaccinations are required to attend Day Camp?Pups must be up to date on their Rabies, DAPP (young pups require both boosters of this vaccine), and Bordetella (Kennel Cough). We also recommend having Leptospirosis. This is not a requirement to come to Camp, however if you would like your pup to swim in our pond they will need to have the Leptospirosis vaccine. Vaccination certificates will need to be uploaded to our booking platform and verified on our end before attending a Half-day Camp Assessment. Official vaccine documentation can be obtained from your vet upon request. These documents will include: vet, pet owner and dog information as well as vaccine details, when they were administered and most importantly, when the vaccine expires. *Please note, that we do not accept records that have been filed out by hand.

Do you offer tours? We do not offer tours of our facility as it does create a lot of disruption for our pups and their play with the excess of excitement created by having people tour our facility. As a daycare that focuses on all day play for our pups, it's important that we are able to control their environment to the best of our ability to make sure it's always safe and peaceful for them to explore, socialize, play and stay in. We strive very hard to create an environment for our pups that does not feel like a kennel and one that puts our pups needs first. That being said, we do understand just how much our pet parents would love to see where their pups play all day. So, we are very excited to offer a virtual tour of our facilities that you can view HERE.

-
How often does my dog need a bath? You should bathe your dog at least once a month (unless they're prone to dry skin). There is such a thing as too many baths, and excessive bathing can harm your pet. Bathing your dog with shampoo and conditioner too often can strip their natural oils, which can result in a dry/dull coat and itchy skin. This is one of the reasons we offer the Muddy Paws service to Daycare Clients. This service only rinses off the dirt, so your dog can run around all day at daycare and be clean at pick up.
-
How often does my dog need a haircut? It is typically recommended to get a haircut for your pup every 8-10 weeks, this is the amount of time that it takes your pup’s hair to grow back out. The timeline in between all depends on how long you are wanting to let your pup’s hair grow out before cutting it again.
-
How often should I get my dog's nails trimmed? It is recommended to get your dog's nails done every 2-3 weeks. However, this can vary based on a dog's age and even the breed. If your dog's nails grow fast it is a good idea to have them done more frequently. Puppies and senior dogs should get their nails trimmed every 2 weeks to help remove the sharpness for puppies and to help prevent any health issues and prevent their quicks (blood vessels) from getting longer on seniors.
-
What is the difference between a nail trim and a nail grind?Trimming clips the nail shorter, while grinding is a tool that can give a smoother finish to the nails and gets you closer to the quick (blood vessel). In time the grinder also helps the quick become smaller, so the nails won’t be as long. This is especially beneficial for puppies and seniors.
-
What type of training do you offer? We offer group training sessions seasonally, as well as the added bonus of natural socialization and manners development during our daycare program. If you have specific behavioural concerns you'd like to address, please visit our Training Inquiry section to provide detailed information so we can better assist you.
-
What should I bring to group training? The only thing you need to bring is yourself and you pup(s)! Make sure your dog's collar is properly tightened (can fit two fingers underneath) before the training session. If you’re attending our Leash Manners group training class, your pup will need to wear a head collar. You’re welcome to bring your own, or you can purchase our Head Leader.
-
What vaccines does my dog need for training? To attend training, your pup must be up to date on their Bordetella (Kennel Cough), Rabies, and DAPP. Puppy's vaccines will usually be completed around 16 weeks old. Current vaccination records will need to be uploaded to your Gingr booking account. This can be done under 'Account' > 'Upload Records'.
-
What should I do to prepare for training? We would like to see how your pup typically behaves, meaning we don't want you to prepare anything beforehand! This allows us to see the root of the problem behaviour, which allows us to address it most effectively.
